THE COSTUME... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

The costume is basic in a Halloween party. To give your party a game, do not forget and ask the guests to come dressed up. It is best to specify that they are homemade Halloween costumes , it does not have to be scary or very elaborate, the fun thing is that they are original and handmade.

If you don't feel like dressing up all of your guests, ask them to come dressed from the shoulders up with some sort of cap, hat, or other accessory. When they arrive at the party, you can offer them to paint their faces with colored makeup sticks or black lipstick. It's very easy and the result is fun!

If you want a fun memory of your party, set up a Halloween Photocall and take a photo of each guest upon arrival, in front of a stage created for the occasion. You can send it to everyone after the party as a souvenir, you will surely succeed! In our shop you will find the collection of costumes and Halloween Photocall with many ideas for your party.

DECORATION FOR AN ORIGINAL HALLOWEEN PARTY

I personally don't like "haunted house" type Halloween parties that are scary and make small children cry loudly. Whether it's a party for children or adults, I prefer it to be fun rather than terrifying.

The essential balloons for Halloween

Decorate the party site with balloons in the colors of Halloween (black, orange and purple) and combine them with polka dot balloons , balloons with bats inside, confetti and one or two very shiny Foil... don't fill with terrifying skulls ! The combination of different colors and drawings, but always in the same color range, always looks good. These very bright stars in silver and the ones with giant bats are part of Meri Meri's incredible Halloween collection, you will find them in our Halloween party decoration collection along with many others.

A fun idea is to make floating ghosts by blowing up a few white balloons and covering each one with a piece of white plastic (a cut-up white garbage bag) or white cheesecloth. Tie the "neck" with a ribbon just below the balloon, and slit the "skirt" a little so that it is strappy. With a black felt-tip pen, draw the eyes and hang the "ghosts" from the ceiling with a thread. They look great!

the halloween table

We advise you to use tableware in solid orange, black and white colors combined with another with Halloween drawings such as skull or striped plates. Discover our collections this year: Chic & Funky Skulls , Halloween BOO for the little ones and Halloween Boho for Halloween parties for more Chic adults. They are all fun and with a very different and special touch.

You can add accessories to your table such as wooden cutlery decorated by hand especially for the occasion.

Play with Light and create terrifying effects

A tip to illuminate your Halloween party would be to replace the effect of candlelight with other less dangerous for children. Replace the bulbs in a ceiling light with a "black" light bulb, found at any electrical store, it will give a "ghostly" light.

Candies, a basic that cannot be missing.

Ahh... the most important thing, don't forget the sweets, they are the center of the party! Keep a large jar of sweets and candies on hand to give to the children who come knocking on your door. These XL Halloween candy jars are great, you will find a mix of bugs, spiders and eyes that we have prepared especially for the occasion. Best of all, their labels with the content of each bottle. With them you will not be caught by surprise with that "Trick or treat" thing... ;)

IDEAS TO DECORATE

A very easy idea that we have loved is to cut these garlands of black cardboard with a pair of scissors with serrated edges and place them around the table and the cake. A tablecloth made from an old, frayed white sheet gives it a very Halloween look. Also use this same idea to cover your armchairs, your party will have a mysterious ghostly air and your furniture will be safe... which never hurts.

Hang garlands with Halloween motifs like this one that we found on Carina Gardner 's website, we love it! We believe that it gives a very Chic look to the living room.

* Some ideas to have fun... scary *

Cut out the shape of a bat from black card and glue it to a lit flashlight. Place it on a piece of furniture. This will illuminate the figure on the opposite wall.

A fun idea is to create the soundtrack for the party. Record atmospheric sounds: screams, howls, the sound of dry leaves being stepped on, the fall of metal pots, eerie laughter, etc. A very fun activity, and the children will love the effect! Rice falling on aluminum foil will be rain, a plastic bag will be a bat, cellophane will be fire, etc.

A game for children is to take a white cardboard and draw a picture with a spider web like this and cut out a spider with black cardboard. Cover the children's eyes with a black scarf. Each child must place the spider in the center of the web without looking, the one who places the spider closest to the center of the web wins.

A bit of history... What is the origin of Halloween?

The origin of Halloween goes back to the Celts. These towns celebrated the festival called Samhain on the night of October 31, to commemorate the end of the harvest season. The druids believed that tonight the witches enjoyed greater vitality, that the boundaries between the world of the living and the world of the dead disappeared, and even that the ghosts of the deceased of the last year entered the world of the living and wandered. lost in search of bodies to possess to travel through the other world. For that reason they made spells and huge bonfires trying to scare away the evil spirits. In order to avoid the harassment of these macabre characters, they left sweets and food at the doors of their houses, set up sinister scenes, decorated houses with bones and skulls or dressed up to try to resemble them and thus go unnoticed.
With the arrival of Christianity and despite the efforts to eliminate any pagan rites, this tradition did not disappear. Given the ingrained nature of the celebration, he decides to adopt it and unify it with another festivity: All Saints' Eve or All Souls' Day (in English All Hallow Eve, which by contraction derives from Halloween) in an attempt to give it a certain religiosity. In the middle of the s. In the 18th century, Irish emigrants arrived in America and with them their traditions and folklore, which soon mixed with other superstitions and other pagan elements, giving rise to what we know today as the terrifying Halloween.
The pumpkin

When the Irish brought Halloween to the US, they also brought with them what would become the most popular symbol of Halloween: the Jack-o-Lantern. Legend has it that after his death, Jack, a bad Irishman and swindler, could not enter Heaven for his misdeeds, nor Hell for deceiving the Devil, being condemned to wander in the darkness with the only help of a burning coal. which would illuminate him in the dark and which he placed in a hollowed-out turnip to burn for a long time. The American Irish changed the turnip for the pumpkin, bigger and more common in their new land and, emulating the poor Jack-o-Lantern, they gave birth to the myth of the Halloween pumpkin.

Me encanta!
